A New Year A New Direction

If there is anything that I’ve learned so far as a small business lady, it’s that you can’t be afraid to let go of what’s not working and change direction. Businesses, big and small, are constantly evolving. Just like with anything in life, change is inevitable, and you can either go with it and keep learning, or you can fight the flow and struggle. And let’s be real, navigating entrepreneurship isn’t exactly a walk in the park, so why make it harder on yourself? No thanks.

So, with the start of the new year, that’s what I’m doing—pivoting.

Instead of focusing on my services as a graphic designer and helping other women with their businesses/pursuits, I’m going to lean more into the illustrative and typographic end of things. I’ve been playing on the side with paper illustrations, font design, and hand-lettering, (as I’m sure many of you have noticed based on my social sharing) but I’ve decided it’s time to make those my focus. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE being a graphic designer, I do, and I have no interest in dropping that tittle. Buuuuut I think that for me there is more opportunity for growth, fun, and income with this new direction.

So, what’s changing

  • If you haven’t noticed already, I’ve scaled down the website big time to solely house on my portfolio, blog, and shop
  • I will not be taking on any new graphic design clients (just illustration clients)
  • I won’t be offering any more resources for non-creative small businesses and content creators
  • The blog will have content about my creative process instead of design for non-designers and small business inspo
  • My shop won’t sell templates anymore, but will instead be offer fonts and more fun, hand-lettered stuff.

What’s NOT changing

  • Sassy, candid content (duh)
  • Hand-lettering
  • Sharing my creative process on social media—there’s just going to be more of it!
  • Female empowerment themes

What kinds of projects and content you can expect to see

  • All the paper-cut illustrations!! I will continue to work on the Paper Polaroids (you can follow the process on my social media page here) plus more layered, paper pieces.
  • I’ll be sharing all the ins and outs of my creative process. There’ll be lots of content on the blog for those of you out there looking to play with paper-cutting, font design, and hand-lettering.
  • More fonts! I definitely plan on putting out more hand-drawn fonts on my foundry this year
  • More videos—the damn algorithm likes them more and it seems to be an effective way to share process, especially for those trying to learn how to hand-letter/illustrate.
