Pro Plant Life
During a time when the pro-life moment is in full force and pushes the importance of life and “saving” those that cannot protect themselves, I felt that other forms of vulnerable and endangered life need recognition. There are better ways to be pro-life is the first in a series of paper-cuts that highlights the many overlooked lives around us that are at risk and need our attention. This paper-cut drew inspiration from and illustrates 6 of the 900 plant species that are endangered in the United States (as determined by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service). Brightly colored, cut paper arranged and layered with a complexity only minutely representing the intricacy of the ecosystems for which these plants make up, reminds us of the beauty we risk losing.
